How we save money when traveling to local and long distance gigs 
A musician with no reliable transportation is out of business. A musician with no affordable place to crash, can't do that long distance gig. I have to  find ways to save time and money to make long distance gigs and tours possible. I'm picky about hotels that I sleep in. I don't need a vacation resort, but I don't want a crappy hotel either. I simply want a clean, comfortable and affordable place to chill. If you are like us, even your local gigs put a lot of miles on your car. Traveling is one of our largest expenses but there are many areas to save within your budget.

Hotwire  Hotwire.com
Every time and every place we travel, we get the lowest hotel rates!
I have used Hotwire.com for hotels, for almost a decade. Every time I do a comparison pricing, I have never found a better rate. Even with the booking fees I come out way cheaper. I also have an easier time checking in and out of the hotel.

Some people complain that they want to know the name of the hotel and all the details before booking...even at incredible rates. I personally go by the customer rating system Hotwire.com offers and have found it to be very accurate. (If you really need to know the name of the hotel, then your best bet is going to be )

They make it easy to type in a location where you are going and pull up all the hotels in the area with cut-rates that I have only found on Hotwire.com Just test it one time and you will be hooked. We would not have been able to play all the places we have across the US without Hotwire.com...in some cases it has been cheaper than tent camping!

Even when we take personal vacations we use Hotwire.com because we can get nice resorts really cheap. There may be a $20 resort fee when we go to these upscale places...but it's a personal vacation, so it's okay with us, because we will be using everything they offer!

We have also had great luck with rental cars here. It's easier than any direct rental car company and cheaper too. If you want to save your car some mileage on a tour, or if you have a broken vehicle, you need to easily rent a car. When you pick your car up, there is no hassle because it is all paid through Hotwire.com. (Again, if you want to know the name of the car rental company before booking, then your next best choice would be Car Rentals.com)

The other huge plus about Hotwire.com is that they take Paypal! I sure wish there was a HotWire for fine dining restaurants!
